Entertain your family at the Santa Ana Zoo!

The Santa Ana Zoo is undoubtedly one of the great jewels in all of Orange County. It features many animals and plants from South America along with  many other species including endangered species from different parts of the country. The land where this zoo is located was donated by Joseph Prentice for the purpose of maintaining more than 50 forlorn monkeys. He made an unusual request that the zoo must always have at least 50 monkeys. So be sure to look out for them while you’re here! Today, the Santa Ana Zoo keeps an extensive primate collection from different parts of the world.

The primary focus of the Santa Ana Zoo is education, recreation and conservation. The Santa Ana Zoo features more than 80 species of animals which includes the smallest monkeys commonly referred to Pygmy Marmosets. Visiting the zoo will allow children and adults to spend their time together learning more about all of the animals and plants. Another popular section of the Santa Ana Zoo is the children’s farm and a train ride popularly known as the Zoofari Express. The train is well maintained and covers a distance of around 1,850 feet around the park. Recently, the train was installed with a new environmentally-friendly electric engine. It travels throughout the entire Crean Family Farm including the northern section of the zoo for approximately 6 minutes.

The Santa Ana Zoo also has a Conservation Carrousel where children learn the importance of environmental conservation by preserving endangered animals while at the same time enjoying a classic carrousel. In addition, each rider is given an educational collector’s card that describes an animal and the reasons why it is endangered. This area of the zoo brings a lot of enjoyment to the children of Orange County and visitors who are delighted to ride one of the carrousel’s 33 animals in the lineup which include the Giant Panda, Hummingbird, Giraffe, African Elephant, Zebra, Panther, Jaguar, Lowland Gorilla, Seal, Eagle, Sea Otter and a custom-made Anteater.
