In one fell swoop, Congress established the “American Continental Army,” which later became the United States Army, and adopted the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States. In 1919, Woodrow Wilson declared June 14th “Flag Day,” and in 1949 it was established as an official national holiday.
